SOMETHING IN THE AIR

MONDAY, OCTOBER 18, sees the release of a new version of "Something In The Air", the 1969 hit by Thunderclap Newman, with Zoot Money on lead vocals.

It's one of two tracks on an advance EP featuring Zoot taken from "Pick 'N Tell", the forthcoming album from the new-look Thunderclaps. The other is "Old Soul Singer", by Pete Brown. The album was produced by Simon Hanhart (Tin Machine, Fish, Marillion, Asia and The Children In Need single 'Perfect Day').

Something In The Air (Keen)
Zoot Money (vocals/keyboards); Pete Goodall (guitar)
Gary Leiderman (bass); Russell Gilbrook (drums); John Mitchell (additional guitar)

Old Soul Singer (Brown)
Zoot Money (vocals); Pete Goodall (guitar); Michael Bailey (bass); Richard Bailey (drums); Dick Heckstall-Smith, Nick Payne, Noel Norris (brass section); Dave Moore (keyboards); Siggi Josiah, Lynn Jackamann (backing vocals)

Thunderclap Newman first recorded and released 'Something In The Air" in 1969, and immediately had a Number One hit on their hands. With the single and album gaining runaway success, the band hit the road and proved to be a crowd pleaser, with guitarist Pete Goodall joining the action. The band was originally put together by Pete Townshend, although he did not perform with the band.

CIVIL UNREST
'Something In The Air' is a political anthem that has been performed numerous times since 1969, covered by numerous and very diverse artistes, but the time is right for the band that instigated the song to give it a new breath of life. 2004, and is life really so different? Terrorism...Crime...War...Poverty? But the song is also about the fact that there is hope, hope that civilisation can actually change, and become just that ... Civilised.

WAR
The 2004 version has tried to stick to the spirit of the 1969 version but obviously with a line up change (including of course, the addition of Zoot Money), and 35 years of evolution, there has to be a change in the overall feel. Producer Simon Hanhart, also the man behind the massive reworked single 'Perfect Day', worked hard to create a track that lived up to the legacy of the song, but also stamped its own mark on the new millennium.

Clone July, from Woodstock Taylor & the Aliens' debut CD, produced by Zoot and also featuring the talents of Colin Hodgkinson, Ronnie Johnson, Marc Johnson and Pete Brown, was Jazz Track of the Day on indie music site GarageBand on May 18, and has won accolades in SIX more categories: During May it achieved No 1 for Best Female Vocals, Best Lyrics and Moodiest Track, plus Best Elevator Track (go figure), Most Original Track and Most Rockin' Track. Garageband operates a blind reviewing policy, so ratings are based purely on listeners' impressions of the music itself. Check out Clone July for yourself at GarageBand.
